RE: Made it thru IKE

Thanks for the thoughts..... just got back from the store, the only thing they had cold was .... you guessed it.... Beer. Power is back on in some of our area, so it should not be long now. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm sick of BBQ. We were on the west side of the storm so it was not as bad as it could have been. I do not think Galveston will be th same for a long time.

Made it thru IKE

Well it seems I've made it thru OK...lost a fence have no power...but the TT made it without a scratch. I sure was nervous going to the storage lot, all the metal buildings were shredded, but it was fine. So now we are living in it out front of the house. Had 12 people sleep in over night but it was all good. We should be getting power some time today, I hope so - my liver can't take another day of drinking beer......

RE: how many of you camp with children

Have 2 boys 8 and 4 yrs -- by the second day at any given campsite we seem to have all the kids at given campsite..... Its amazing how fast the word Smores gets them running, I don't even want to know how many they eat with them bounceing from one camp to the next.

Probabilities????

Why is it that the probability of a car pulling in front of you and hitting the brakes increases as the size of the car decreases?

RE: 35' to 40' TT's?

My Jayco 32BHDS is 35' long - drag it all over the place.

RE: Gulfstream or Jayco

Got to go with the Jayco ..... but anybody that bought a Jayco will, while the Gulfstream people won't. If you like them both equaly, then compare dealerships.

RE: 2009 Jayco Jayflight 32 BHDS G2 TT

We have the 32bhds and really like it. The kids love their own room. Picked ours up for 22,500 but with a bunch of extrasthrown in... (maxair2's, slide awnings...etc.).

RE: Fuel price, I only paid $3.67 for gas and I feel bad......

Filled up for 3.61 at a "Bucky's" (also $1 for a 20lb bag of ice). Not to worry it will be back up in time for Labor day.

RE: What are your opinions?

Once you absorb the cost of the trailer, its still a cheaper vacation than a nice hotel. $30-$50 a night is still a lot cheaper than $150 a night (stay 3 nights and there is your gas money). Its the absorbtion of the initial cost that is a killer, with the tightening of credit, toys are always the first to go. No more keeping up with the Jone's, so there is a big part of customer base gone.

RE: Jayco - Electrical Problem

Yep you nailed it....Its a loose (disconected) ground wire to the bus bar. Scary as it could cause a fire. It never tripped the breakers, I just noticed a funny smell.

RE: Jayco - Electrical Problem

Jayco - Electrical Problem

Had a short in the main breaker box. This was in the area that feeds the breakers (the power strip that all the breakers tie into). Well because it was in front of the breakers they did not trip until they got hot. By that time the damage was done - the housing had melted and the insulation on the wires was toast. Has anybody else had this happen to them? ..... I was running a surge protector.

RE: De-Flapper on Electric Awning

I've used them on mine - works fine...... just remember to remove them before you roll it up.

RE: Power Awning Pictures

There were 2 different types of awnings installed by Jayco. One that was flat w/the auto dump feature, and another that was a steep pitch version without the dump feature. The steep one was early on, and they then switched to the flat one. I heard they were exchanging the steep out to the flat under warrenty because the steep one was for 5th wheels and such with a higher roof. We have the steep one and I really like it. Just roll it back a couple of inches and the water just rolls right off the front, never had any pooling even in heavy rain.

RE: 30 foot or 34 foot...is the 4 foot difference a big deal?

I recently purchased a 35' trailer and have not found the length to be a problem,in fact just the opposite the room inside has helped me keep my sanity when we were "rained in" one afternoon with 2 boys. As of now I'm glad we went bigger.

RE: Do you lock your battery, propane tanks, and spare tire?

Lock everything except the battery (remove it and take it home). Also have one of those "boot-like" trailer locks that fit on your tire (the mounted one not the spare). I'm only worried about the storage lot, not the campground as much. I know you can never fully secure your stuff, but I can make mine less appealing than the trailers stored next to me. Its a shame its come to this, but it is what it is.

RE: Hensley Hitch

From seb503's post, it sounds like Hensley Arrow Co. is not liking the competition at all. What I understand is that ProPride (Jim Hensley) has patented the adjustable hitch idea and Hensley Arrow is out of luck. But then again you know how rumors go.....

RE: Trimming Memory foam to fit?

Thanks for the replies - I believe I'm going to gamble and get the Serta 2" topper from Overstock.com for $79. Will use my electric fillet knife to trim to size.

Trimming Memory foam to fit?

I am looking at getting some of this stuff to cover the sack of springs they call a mattress, and have a few questions. Can you order a regualer queen size one and just trim it down with an utility knife to fit? or do I need some special tool? Also is 2" about the right amount? I've heard the stuff is heavy.

RE: Hensley Hitch

I have ordered a ProPride - waiting on delivery. The way I see it is why not spend the extra money on what is the weakest link in the towing setup. Yes, an equalizer hitch is a good hitch but most of us probably have at least $50k to $60k rolling down the road, so putting 5% of that into a hitch does not seem extravagant. Basically tow with what you are comfortable with, I'm just more comfortable with the best hitch I can buy.
